YEAR 13 A LEVEL MEDIA

The brief for A2 Media was open, I was able to choose my own topic for the essay and production piece. I chose to focus on Social Media, exploring the impact of big businesses on Instagram and then developing this into a mock up feature in Teen Vogue. The Teen Vogue issue consisted of an interview with a 'social media star' and an article expressing the unrealistic lifestyles portrayed on Instagram, using Essena O'Neil as a case study.

Why has Instagram attracted the attentions of big business, and what has been the effect of their involvement?

For the second section of my exam, I had to conduct research into 'Identities in the media' and choose a case study to support my argument. I chose to focus on the idea that the variety of media platforms available encourages us to have many different identities of ourselves. I used Kim Kardashian as my case study as her identity has changed overtime from how she first became famous, to now being a mother and successful entrepreneur.

'The variety of media available encourages us to create many different identities for ourselves.' How far do you agree with this statement?
